What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. It uses the power of positive suggestion to help bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It does this by aiming to alter our state of consciousness in such a way that the concious part of the mind relaxes, whilst at the same time stimulating and focussing the subconscious part of the mind.
What Can Hypnotherapists Treat?
Hypnotherapy is known as a treatment for habit breaking such as fear of flying and stopping smoking. It can also help for stress-related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has in recent years recognised hypnotherapy as a treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). More concrete evidence is needed to support the use of hypnosis in additional areas as an alternative to conventional medicine. Many people have found hypnotherapy to be effective whether used on its own after other treatment options have bee exhausted or in conjuctions with traditional treatments. More information about hypnotherapy is available from the National Council for Hypnotherapy website.
