“If you can breathe you can Meditate”
Meditation is straight forward and simple (but not easy), as it takes practice. Meditation is essentially training our attention so that we can be more aware – not only of our own inner workings but also of what is happening around us in the here and now.
I recently attended a Yoga workshop and the teacher was explaining about her last class, which was mainly men and before she gets started, she asked the class to breathe, and sit quietly for a few minutes. She allowed 5 minutes to pass before she asked each of them to tell her where they could feel their breath, or body tension, sadly the majority confirmed in their head!
This is not an ideal reply, but interesting!
People have been transforming their minds through meditation for thousands of years. Every major world religion includes some form of contemplative exercise. Meditation can be done in silence and stillness, by using voice and sound, or by engaging the body in m movement. All forms emphasise the training of attention.
We have slowly been transformed from whole beings to living in our heads and what is scary is that most people think that’s normal. Modern technology has assisted by taking us outside of ourselves, my observation is that we have lost the ability to connect to ourselves, each other and our own space around us.
Some of the most successful people meditate to place themselves firmly within, before they go onto win a great game, or make a business deal. The power of a deep and authentic connection inside can make a huge difference long term. Its life transforming, fun and simple.
We are delighted to offer Meditation classes here are Total Health. The classes will be running 4 weeks at a time allowing a variety of techniques to taught and established. This will give everyone a chance to find a simple model that suits them to move forward with thereafter.
