Why Seek an ADHD Assessment for Your Child?

Early diagnosis of ADHD in children can make a huge difference to learning, emotional well-being, and family life.

You might consider an assessment if your child:

  • Struggles to concentrate or complete tasks.
  • Is restless, fidgety, or finds it hard to stay still.
  • Has big emotional reactions to small frustrations.
  • Frequently daydreams or loses focus.
  • Finds school routines or friendships difficult.

For general NHS advice about ADHD in children, see the NHS ADHD overview.

An ADHD diagnosis can:
  • Unlock tailored support in school (e.g., EHCPs or extra help in class).
  • Give parents proven strategies to manage behaviours at home.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety for the whole family.
  • Boost your child’s confidence and sense of self.

Signs of ADHD in Children

While every child is unique, common signs of ADHD in children include:
  • Difficulty waiting for their turn.
  • Constant talking or interrupting.
  • Struggling with organisation and forgetfulness.
  • Emotional ups and downs.
  • Impulsivity or acting without thinking.
Sometimes these behaviours are mistaken for “bad behaviour” or immaturity. A formal ADHD assessment can help ensure your child gets the right understanding and support, instead of being misunderstood.
