What Is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic specialists use a range of techniques proven to reduce pain, improve function, and increase mobility, including safe and often gentle hands-on spinal manipulation. As well as manual treatment, our chiropractors are able to offer a package of care including advice on self-help, therapeutic exercises, and lifestyle changes.
Why Do I Have Back Pain?
Unless you have recently lifted something very heavy or been in an accident, back pain is often a result of inactivity or too much time spent sitting.
More and more of us spend more time sitting and less time being active every day. Often, we sit in the car or on the bus on the way to work. We then sit all day at work and finally sit in front of the T.V. at home.
All this time spent sitting causes extra pressure on the various muscles and joints of the spine. This causes them to tighten up, making them more likely to be injured. Which is where a chiropractor can help.
Struggling With Back Pain - A Chiropractic Perspective
Have you woken up with back pain, or have you been struggling with an annoying ache for a while?
You may be wondering how this has happened and what you can do to help it.
Many People Experience Back Pain
You are not alone. Back pain is common, with 77% of people questioned in a British Chiropractic Association survey saying that they had suffered from it in the past.
Do I Have Sciatica?
Sciatica is a pain in the leg caused by a problem with the disc or nerves in your lower back. Quite often people with disc or sciatic problems will have very bad leg pain but little to no back pain.
Chiropractic care can help treat sciatica and disc problems.

Chiropractic Treatment for Neck Pain
With increased time in front of screens, at work, or at home, as a society, our necks are under more and more pressure.
The hunched posture often adopted as we look at computer screens, laptops, tablets, and smartphones puts a great deal of pressure on the joints and muscles of the neck. This in turn leads to neck pain.
This form of neck pain is often termed ‘mechanical neck pain’. Our chiropractors can help to treat this by improving the movement and function of the joints and muscles in the neck.
In combination with rehabilitative exercises and postural advice, we can help to get rid of your neck pain.

Chiropractic Care for Headaches and Migraines
Headaches are very common. The vast majority are not dangerous although they are often painful and disruptive to daily life.
Headaches can affect every part of your life whether it is your ability to concentrate at work, take part in your hobbies or how you get on with your family and friends. If you live with headaches regularly your idea of ‘normal’ can become skewed. It may be common but it is not normal to have headaches daily or several times a week and if you do then you should seek advice.
The Journal of Headache and Pain reported that 78% of the population suffers with tension-type headaches
Percentage of people suffering headaches by age:
- 18-24 64.2%
- 25-34 73.1%
- 35-44 66.2%
- 45-54 57.1%
- 55-64 46.2%
- 65+ 34.5%
How Can A Chiropractor Help Me With My Headaches?
Chiropractors can help with headaches that are caused by a problem with the joints and muscles in the neck. This type of headache is known as a cervicogenic headache. If there is a problem with the way joints or muscles of your neck are moving, a chiropractor can improve the function of these joints which may help your headaches to improve.
What Are Migraines?
Migraines are a form of headache. They tend to be very painful and are often associated with sensitivity to light, smells, and sounds. People can feel nauseous and sick with them and often have to go to bed in a darkened room until they pass. Some people will know that they have particular triggers such as foods or drinks that will cause a migraine, other causes can be hormonal.
Living with regular migraines can be hugely debilitating and in the UK alone it is estimated that 10 million people suffer from them.
About 25% of migraine sufferers will have an aura before the migraine starts. This is often zig zags in front of the eyes or a sensitivity to light but can also be numbness, confusion, and dizziness. Chiropractic treatment aims to restore normal movement to the muscles and joints of the spine. This can help in the prevention of migraine.
What Happens On My First Visit To a Chiropractor?
During your first visit we:
- Take a full history of your problem and your medical history
- Give you a thorough physical examination, assessing the movement in the injured area and other parts of your spine as necessary
- Explain your problem, how we can help and how long it is likely for you to take to get better. We don’t like to rush so we allow an hour for our new patient consultation. To give us plenty of time to find out what is going on and how we can help you.
Could My Feet Be Causing My Pain?
Often the plantar fascia can be irritated and injured by faulty foot mechanics. This means that the fascia on the sole of your foot has to work harder than normal to absorb and control the forces of walking and running.
At Total Chiropractic we have cutting-edge technology to analyse and assess how well your feet work and can show if your feet are the root cause of the problem.
