Breast Examination Consultation
Occasionally you may have a concern about your breasts.
It may be a pain you are experiencing, or perhaps you think you might be feeling a lump or the skin or the breast itself just looks different.
It’s natural when we think something is not right to start to panic that it might be something serious.
We have created this appointment as an easy and affordable way to have your breasts checked if you have any concerns. Whilst this is available at your NHS GP we realise that sometimes it is not possible or easy to get an appointment as quickly as you would like.
Why Choose Our Breast Examination Consultation
Our appointments are carried out by experienced female GPs, they are longer than your average NHS GP appointment so your appointment will not be rushed. There will be plenty of time to discuss your concerns and to have an examination at your own pace.
Why do women book a breast examination Consultation?
Women may book a breast examination for various reasons, often they choose to book an appointment to be proactive about their health care or sometimes it is to address specific concerns.
Here are some of the main reasons women book a breast examination appointment!.
1. Regular Screening for Breast Health
- Routine breast exams are a vital part of preventive care, especially for women over 40 or those with risk factors for breast cancer. Early detection of abnormalities can significantly improve outcomes.
2. Checking for Lumps or Changes
- If you notice a lump, thickening, or unusual texture in your breast tissue during self-examination, a clinical breast exam can provide clarity and identify whether further testing is needed.
3. Addressing Changes in Appearance
- Changes in breast size, shape, or skin texture, including dimpling, redness, or swelling, are reasons to seek a professional examination.
4. Concerns About Nipple Changes
- Issues like nipple discharge (especially if it’s bloody), inversion, or crusting around the nipple warrant a medical evaluation to rule out underlying issues.
5. Family History of Breast Cancer
- Women with a family history of breast cancer may choose to schedule regular examinations to monitor their breast health closely.
6. Pain or Discomfort
- Breast pain or tenderness, whether it’s cyclical (related to your menstrual cycle) or persistent, should be assessed to rule out conditions like cysts or infections.
7. Post-Surgery or Treatment Monitoring
- After procedures like breast surgery or treatment for breast cancer, regular exams help ensure continued health and detect any changes early.
8. Hormonal Changes
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause, or hormone therapy can cause changes in breast tissue that may require professional evaluation.
9. Peace of Mind
- Booking a breast examination can provide reassurance if you’re feeling uncertain about your breast health, helping to alleviate anxiety and support your overall well-being.
10. Referral for Imaging or Specialist Care
- A clinical breast exam can lead to referrals for further tests, such as mammograms, ultrasounds, or biopsies, if necessary.
Proactive breast care is essential for women of all ages, and regular clinical exams play a key role in maintaining long-term health.
