Ambulatory ECG heart monitors are useful for diagnosing symptoms that come and go such as palpitations or chest pain. It is often used to test for arrhythmia. It’s safe and completely painless.

You’ll receive a full report analysing your heart rhythm, helping to identify whether anything needs further investigation or providing reassurance if everything is normal.

You can order the Holter ECG to record activity for between 1 and 7 days. Most people choose the 48-hour test, as it gives a clearer picture of intermittent symptoms.

What do I need to do before I have a Holter monitor ECG?

The ambulatory ECG heart monitor needs to be securely attached to your chest – if you have a hairy chest, you will need to shave the area and clean the area the monitor will be placed before wearing it.

Is a the equipment painful?

No, it is totally painless.

How quickly will I receive the results?

Once the monitor has been returned then you will receive your results in 1 – 3 days.

Can I have a copy of the results?

Yes, they will be emailed to you. With your consent, we will also email your results to your NHS GP or other clinician of your choosing.

Will I need more tests?

You may need more tests or investigations. Your GP or the clinician who ordered the test will advise you on this.

What happens if I do not return the Holter ECG?

Firstly, you would not get your results from the test. Secondly, if the Holter ECG is lost or damaged, you would be held responsible for the cost of a replacement unit, which could amount to around £1,000 (VAT).

What information do I need to provide to place an order?

In order to order the test, we need your name, address, phone number, and date of birth.

How quickly will I receive my Holter monitor ECG after I have placed an order?
